The Embassy of India, Yangon has a
Commercial Section located in the Embassy premises. The section
follows the same timing as the Embassy i.e., from 0900 hrs to 1730
hrs. The Commercial Section carries out the following activities:-
(a) Conducting trade enquiries
(b) Procurement/submission of tender documents on behalf of Indian
Government Enterprises
(c) Organizing buyers-sellers meeting
(d) Fixing up the appointment for Indian delegation to Myanmar as
well as Myanmar delegation to India
(e) Exchange of Trade Information
(f) Encouraging local business community to participate in Seminars
& Trade Fairs, etc.

Economic Profile
Myanmar's economy is primarily agricultural, with agricultural
activity employing nearly two thirds of the population and
contributing about 45 percent of total GDP. The main crop grown is
rice. Other significant contributors to GDP are Wholesale & Retail
Trade (22.6 per cent) Manufacturing, Mining & Energy (15.5 per
cent), Livestock and Fisheries & Forestry (5.4 per cent). The GDP
growth during 2003-04 was 13.8 percent and is predicting 12 per cent
for the fiscal year 2005-2006. The manufacturing sector is
relatively undeveloped and accounts for about 15.10 per cent of GDP.
The main export commodities comprise agricultural, marine and forest
products, and minerals and gems. Myanmar imports mainly consumer
goods and raw materials and capital goods for industrial use.
