Myanmar-India Entrepreneurship Development Centre (MIEDC)

Myanmar-India Entrepreneurship Development Centre (MIEDC) was inaugurated at the Institute of Economics in Yangon on 6 February 2009. MIEDC has been set up with the cooperation of Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) at Ahmedabad, is a part of India's technical assistance to Myanmar in support of the Initiative for ASEAN (IAI).

The MIEDC is intended to share India's developmental experience – with all the problems faced and successes achieved – with the people of Myanmar. Myanmar flourishes in natural resources, such as gas minerals, forest products, livestock and agro products. The objective of the Centre are to establish training facilities; provide enterprise development finance to trainees after completion of their training programme at MIEDC; provide technical services to the new entrepreneurs in setting up their new business; and provide vocational training programmed on a need basis. This Centre together with the Myanmar-India Centre for Enhancement of IT Skills (MICEITS) and soon-to-be established Myanmar-India Centre for English Language Training (MICELT) would provide a comprehensive infrastructure for training of Myanmar's youths and equip them with essential skill who can transform these natural resources into marketable commodities, which will lead to economic activity, employment generation and overall industrial development of Myanmar.

The Centre will spearhead the entrepreneurship development movement in Myanmar and facilitate the creation of viable and competitive new enterprises and new job opportunities. This Centre will also help existing enterprises to face new challenges of global competition.
